A little bit about Kelly. She answered the call to write after decades spent traveling other paths – lawyer, political activist, musician, actor, potter. Despite harboring the impulse to write in her earliest memory, it took an existential crisis for her to find the courage and compassion to write her stories.
Kelly bears witness to hard truths: the hidden shame of poverty and the scars of her family’s hard faith, to depression, addiction, and suicide, and she does so in writing saturated with singular beauty and deep wisdom.
Among other things, her writing has been called “vast, engulfing, accomplished” and her book has been praised as “insightful, courageous, and luminous.”
